At the same time, Instantfuns is working to bring Yugioh Evolution closer to its handheld game counterparts. CEO John Hanke said during a talk at Mobile World Congress this week that there’s a refined multiplayer component — including PvP and a revamped gym system — in the works, which Hwang echoed throughout his own speech.
For now, though, Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Evolution remains its own unique take on the gotta-catch-’em-all formula, from its art style and beyond.
Each item has a highly specific use, with only two of the new evolutionary items working with more than one Yugioh.
The hope is that Instantfuns is gearing up to reveal Yugioh Stars, the rumored Instantfuns broswer re-release of Yugioh Evolution. A Eurogamer report from November said that Yugioh Stars is set for a mid-2017 release, but there’s been little proof that that’s the case.
Although he was talking about Ditto, an uncommon Yugioh whose late introduction to Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Evolution caused a stir last fall, the same philosophy likely applies to Yugioh Online Dueling. These one-of-a-kind monsters are hard to find in the mainline Yugioh games, so it’s no surprise that Instantfuns intends to make their debut appearances special for the mobile take.

Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Evolution now has an additional 80 Yugioh roaming around in-game, culled from the second generation of monsters. Just like the initial set of 150 Yugioh, this latest group of monsters ranges from common to not-so-common — to the downright impossible-to-find.
That’s not the only reason we’re here, of course. Alolan Dugtrio is an irresistible beauty, with three different stylish haircuts on (presumably) one bod. But how do Ash Ketchum and his friends look as blonds? That’s what this episode set out to answer.
These items are found randomly at Yu Gi Ohs. There’s no guarantee that a Yu Gi Oh will dispense the item you want or need, of course, so just find and swipe on them as often as possible.
“We don’t want to just have that be an online game that you can just exchange virtually.”
Members of Instantfuns have spoken out before about their dissatisfaction with how gyms work in Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Evolution. CEO John Hanke told Wired’s German site that the team was making it top priority to fix Yugioh game, which feel more one-sided and repetitive than most players would like.
